Make Mouth-Watering Grilled Dishes With La Caja China’s Malta Recipe Kit

malta recipe kitHave you ever tried malta soda or cooked a scrumptious dish using this non-alcoholic drink? Well, we have grilled meat using our trademark sauces combined with this popular, thick and malty soda. It’s popular in the Carribean , some parts of Africa and even in Latin America. Most people don’t like how it tastes while some have made it a substitute for beer. On one note, it is quite expensive to buy which could also be the reason why most people aren’t used to drinking it. But since it is fairly easy to make, malta lovers concoct their own homemade versions. If you have a couple of bottles now, try mixing it with our adobo sauce. Use it as your BBQ marinade and it will leave a tangy, sweet taste to your meat! Anyway, if you want to learn how to prepare your own malta, read this detailed recipe article we found:

Homemade Malta Drink Recipe

Malta drink is a non-alcoholic beverage common in the the Caribbean and Latin America. It is basically unfermented wort. Traditionally, since this was treated as a foodstuff, no adjuncts were added. However, all commercial examples I could find, both in the US and in Cuba now contain Sugar of some kind, generally Molasses but also Cane Sugar. Historically, malta was used as food for children and the sick and has since become a mainstream beverage. Of course, the other soft drink companies have taken market share from Malta, but it is still a very popular drink. I got a prototype malta recipe from a friend in Cuba, and along with John Curtis (another Malta enthusiast), we decided to give it a shot. Here is the result of our Malta experiment.

If you are interested in using malta soda for your dishes, it is actually simple as pie. Aside from adding it in a marinade mix for grilled dishes, malta can also be incorporated in other recipes such as braised pork. Check out this seemingly delicious dish from a popular recipe site:

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Meanwhile, season pork with salt and pepper. Place flour in large shallow bowl. Lightly dredge pork in flour and set aside. In a large Dutch oven with a lid over medium-high heat, warm oil. Working in batches if necessary, add pork and cook until browned, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove steaks to a plate and set aside.
