Side Dishes To Enjoy With Your Whole Pig Roast

whole pig roastA whole pig roast is a spectacular dish in itself. And although we can have it as it is, we can’t deny the fact that pairing it with delicious side dishes will make any lunch or dinner party even more delightful! With that being said, here are some side dish suggestions we compiled for you!

1. Watermelon Fire & Ice Salsa

Salsa gives a citric, spicy and yet refreshing appeal to any main course. Instead of using tomatoes, try this recipe that features watermelons for a change. In a mixing bowl, simply combine chopped watermelons, green bell peppers, cilantro, green onions, jalapeno peppers, lime juice and season the ingredients with garlic salt. Don’t forget to mix the ingredients well.

2. Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon, Pecans and Maple Syrup

Of course, we’ll have to serve more veggies to offset a heavy, meaty, main course. Roast your pecans, bacon and brussels sprouts. Then combine the Brussels with the rendered fat from the bacon. Add in the salt, pepper, olive oil, chopped roasted pecans and chopped bacon. Drizzle with maple syrup and balsamic vinegar. Toss the ingredients rigorously to distribute the flavors.

3. Texas-Style Baked Beans

Instead of the always present New England baked beans, try its Texan counterpart instead. Brown some ground beef and then in a slow cooker, mix it with your baked beans, onion, barbecue sauce and green chiles. Add sugar, chili powder, hot pepper sauce and garlic powder to make it flavorful.

4. Roasted Sweet Potato Risotto

Instead of the usual mashed white potato dish, try this risotto recipe. It combines the smoky flavor of roasted sweet potatoes with other appetizing ingredients such as nutmeg, paprika, olive oil, unsalted butter, shallots, garlic cloves, white wine, parmesan cheese, brown butter, bacon, sage, rosemary, parsley, salt and pepper. And what’s great about it is that it features rice! YUMMMM!

5. Roasted Stuffed Onions

We have always loved stuffed bell peppers but have you tried roasted stuffed onions? They taste superb! Saute onion, salt, celery, pepper until they’re soft. Add in the cashews, spinach bread, butter, a cup of stock and bacon. When they’re cooked, stuff the ingredients inside medium-sized onions and roast.

6. Radicchio-Pasta Salad

There are lots of people who love pasta salads to go with their pork roast. If you are one of them, try this radicchio pasta salad from Rachel Ray. Cook your pasta al dente then set it aside. In a bowl, combine garlic, oregano, mustard, vinegar, orange marmalade. Whisk the ingredients while streaming the olive oil into the mixture. Add salt and pepper to taste. Once done, drizzle the dressing onto the boiled pasta with chopped radicchio and onions.
